Alaska Judo, Inc. Special Awards
Over the year, Alaska Judo, Inc. has developed a set of special awards designed to recognize a variety of contributions to Kodokan Judo in Alaska. These awards range from recognizing rookie competitors, to volunteers, to long term contributors to the sport of Judo in Alaska. The AJI member clubs nominate and select people each year as recipients, with the award being announced at the State Championship. This year, the awards are:
The Rookie of the Year
Awarded to the outstanding new Judo competitor of the year:
The Ricky Cascera Award
Awarded to the outstanding teenage contestant of the year in Ricky’s honor.
The Lindsey Hurst Award
This award is given to the outstanding female Judoka of the year in Lindsey’s honor.
The Most Inspirational Judoka Award
Awarded to the Judoka who exemplifies the concepts of Kodokan Judo and has been an inspiration to others in their Judo development due to this Judoka’s excellence in Judo.
John C. Gregory Sports Person of the Year
Awarded to the person who has exemplified exceptional sportsmanship in Judo this year.
The Volunteer of the Year Award
Awarded to the person who has sacrificed a tremendous amount of their time and personal energies and efforts to further the development of Judo in the State of Alaska.
The Ron Hildebrand Award
Presented in recognition of the outstanding person who for many years has contributed their lifetime, energy and instruction above and beyond the “call of duty”, often at a great personal sacrifice.
