Shisei or posture describes the various postures or stances commonly used in Judo.
Shizentai - Natural Posture
Shizen-hontai (Basic Natural Posture): The neutral starting position with both feet placed naturally on the same axis, roughly shoulder-width apart.
Migi-shizentai (Right Natural Posture): The right foot is advanced slightly forward and rightward from the basic position.
Hidari-shizentai (Left Natural Posture): The left foot is advanced slightly forward and leftward.
Jigotai - Defensive Posture
Jigo-hontai (Basic Defensive Posture): Feet are wide and parallel on the same axis.
Migi-jigotai (Right Defensive Posture): The right foot is advanced and turned slightly outward.
Hidari-jigotai (Left Defensive Posture): The left foot is advanced and turned slightly outward.
