For participant safety and to ensure proper technique is developed, Judo should only be practiced under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
Ukemi-waza or Falling techniques are essential to the safe practice of Judo. The falling techniques teach you how to disperse the energy of the fall as you hit the ground. There are four basic types of falls in Judo:
Mae-ukemi - front falls
Ushiro-ukemi - rear falls
Yoko-ukemi - side falls
Mae-mawari-ukemi - forward rolling falls.
